Team Holmes Run Acres
Job Title Assistant Coach - 2024 Summer Season
Job Description

Assistant Head Coach

ABOUT OUR TEAM

The Holmes Run Acres (HRA) Hurricanes is seeking an Assistant Head Coach for the Summer of 2024 and beyond.

HRA is a small team of about 125 swimmers (ages 5 – 18) with who range in experience from beginners to year-round club swimmers and will be swimming in Division 10 this year.  The swim team is an enthusiastic and tight-knit community that values teamwork, personal achievement, good sportsmanship, and fostering a love of swimming.  In addition to the athletic responsibilities of the team, we value our coaches as members of our community.

Our season begins right after Memorial Day with afternoon practices from May 28, 2024 – June 12, 2024, transitioning to morning practices on June 13, 2024 – July 26, 2024. We also hold a 1-hr evening practice on Tuesdays/Thursdays during June/July. Practice sessions are divided by age (8 and unders, 9-12 year olds, 13 and olders) with differing abilities within the age groups.  Our youngest swimmers, known as the Tropical Storms, have a dedicated practice.  Practices will have a wide focus: many swimmers are new to the sport and gaining confidence in swimming unassisted 25y. Others are “barely legal” and will need instruction on stroke proficiency and development. Our more experienced swimmers will benefit from more advanced technical instruction, encouragement, and conditioning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Head Coach will collaborate with the Head Coach to:

Coaches will report to (and work closely with) the Team Representatives, who are appointed by the Pool Board to manage the day-to-day affairs of the swim team. The Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach will decide together how to divide responsibilities, but should both be comfortable coaching all skill levels.

There are additional income-earning opportunities for coaches, such as private coaching, learn-to-swim clinics, and stroke clinics. The coaching position will be held as an independent contractor.
