Job Title Assistant Coach - 2026 Season
Job Description

The Orange Hunt Swim and Tennis Club is accepting applications for Assistant Coach position(s). 

Orange Hunt Swim and Tennis Club is located in West Springfield, VA and competed in NVSL’s Division 4 for the 2025 summer swim season. View our club website here. The Shark’s Swim Team typically has about 100 families with 180 swimmers across all ages.

We are currently looking for an individual to assist our head coach in leading a competitive and fun neighborhood team! The ideal candidate is high-energy, positive, and focused on developing all swimmers. Our team’s focus is not only on stroke technique but also sportsmanship, teamwork, and team spirit! We won the division sportsmanship award in 2025, and are so proud of our Sharks! 

The assistant coach will support our head coach and will manage several other junior lane coaches daily throughout the summer season.

Our practices begin the day after Memorial Day and continue in evenings until Fairfax County Public School is out at which time they move to the mornings, Monday through Friday. Swim meets are held Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. We will also hold swim clinics and other opportunities for additional stroke development under the supervision of the head coach. Providing private, user-pay lessons outside practice times is also encouraged and preferred.

Qualifications:
> Previous NVSL coaching experience
> Strong knowledge of NVSL and USA Swimming rules
> Experience coaching all strokes, turns, starts, and finishes through training techniques tailored to different learning styles, ages, and skill levels
> Experience in seeding meets
> Experience managing others 
> Excellent communication skills
> Strong organization and leadership skills
> Lifeguard Certified 
> CPR and First Aid Certified
> Pool Operator Certificate, if not currently certified willing to secure at the team’s expense

Preferred Qualifications:
> Proficient with SwimTopia software 

Responsibilities:
> Attend all practices, meets, and team events (including social events and setup/breakdown of the pool for meets). Must be able to attend Relay Carnival, Divisionals, All-Stars Relays, and Individual All-Stars.
> Assist Head Coach with creation of practice workout: all four strokes should be covered, as well as dives, turns, and finishes
> Develop individual swimmer’s technique and provide feedback to all swimmers
> Assist with preparation of meet lineup and approval for meet entries
> Provide guidance and feedback to lane coaches 
> Foster importance of teamwork and team spirit
> Interact with parents, swimmers, and fellow coaches in a professional manner
> Conduct yourself as a positive role model
> Keep open lines of communication with head coach and team representatives
