Job Title Head Swim Coach - 2026 Season
Job Description
The Cottontail Cobias Swim Team is seeking a Head Coach for the 2026 season. Last summer, Cottontail
competed in the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) Division 8 and participates in the B Meets of
the Springfield Burke Developmental League. We have 200+ swimmers (around 40 of those are minis) of
all skill levels. 

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic head coach with a passion for working with swimmers
of all ability levels. The Head Coach will focus on stroke development, technique, and race/meet strategy,
while strongly focusing on fostering team spirit and a positive team culture. Our practices begin the
Tuesday after Memorial Day, with the season concluding August 1. 

Head Coach Responsibilities:
- Attend all practices, meets (Time Trials, 5 Saturday A meets, 4 Monday night B meets, Rally in
the Alley Developmental Meet, Divisional Relays, All-Star Relays, IM Carnival, Divisionals,
Individual All-Stars) and official team events (Team pep rallies on Friday evenings before home A
meets, age-group dinners and end-of-season banquet).
- Instruct swimmers in correct stroke, turn, start, and finish techniques
- Offer constructive feedback to swimmers during and after meets, including reviewing and
disqualifications.
- Manage the junior coaches. Provide oversight and mentoring to junior coaches while performing
their duties at swim practices, swim meets, and all team-related activities.
- Work closely with the Team Reps by maintaining effective communication.
- Facilitate team cheers and lead pep rallies.
- Foster and build a positive team culture.
- Work closely with the Mini Cobia Head Coach and discuss when/if minis are ready to be moved up to the swim team.
- Create and implement effective daily practices for varying age groups.
- Prepare for competitive Saturday "A" meets by helping create meet lineups in Swimtopia.
- Review all meet entries for Monday “B” Meets.

Qualifications:
- Prior coaching experience in NVSL or club swim.
- Extensive competitive swimming background preferred.
- Strong knowledge of NVSL rules and procedures.
- Ability to develop practice schedules for varying age groups.
- Ability to manage coaching staff.
- Excellent communication skills with children, parents, volunteers, and coaching staff.
- Lifeguard Certification and Pool Operator Certification (or the ability to obtain them).
